IGNOU To Introduce New Programmes in Performing and Visual Arts

New Delhi: The School of Performing and Visual Arts of Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU), New Delhi, is about to launch four new courses at the post graduate level, in the field of performing and visual arts. The programmes are Master of Performing Arts - Hindustani Classical Music (MPA-HVM), Master of Performing Arts - Bharatanatyam (MPA-BN), Master of Performing Arts - Theatre Arts (MPA-THA) and Master of Fine Arts - Painting (MFAP).
 
Candidates interested in applying for the programmes can obtain the prospectus and application forms from IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068. The forms can also be downloaded from the university's website: http://www.ignou.ac.in/schools/sopva/index.htm. date to submit completely filled application forms is June 15, 2010. The faculty members and eminent academicians/ professional in the respective fields will conduct the classes for these new programmes, at a venue selected by IGNOU.
 
MPA-HVM programme offered by IGNOU will allow students taking up a particular style of singing i.e. either Dhrupad or Dhamar. Through this course, students would be facilitated to build a career in music, by studying a paper on Management of music Events and a paper on sound and acoustics. There are a total of 20 seats and admission would be done on the basis of merit in entrance test and audition. The eligibility for taking up the above program is graduation i.e B.A (Hons) in Hindustani music, with 50% marks or graduation in any discipline with 60% marks in diploma in music from any recognized university.
 
MPA- BN programme is aimed at sharpening the skills of the trained and qualified professional dancers. The program, which particularly focuses on four important areas of performance i.e choreography, technical production aspects and writing dance and research, admits a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 15 students. The admissions to this program are made on the basis of entrance test held on the IGNOU campus, comprising of both theory as well as practical. Every student has to clear both the parameters, to get admission. The eligibility criterion for this program is a graduation in Bharatanatyam or graduation with a government recognized Diploma in Dance (Bharatnatyam).
 
The MPA (Theatre) programme, which offers specializations in Design, Direction and Children Theatre, imparts training in acting, direction, and technical theatre. The course is designed in order to equip the student and provide training in media, along with latest theatre research methodologies, along with theatre histories. The eligibility criteria for the programme, for which the maximum intake is 25, is graduation with diploma in acting /theatre arts or graduation with 3 years hands on experience in theatre. Admission to this program is made on the basis of entrance test and audition.
 
MFAP programme is geared towards providing a platform to students in order to identify and develop their own style and medium at advanced level to become a professional artist. This particular programme, with a maximum intake of 20 students, aims at developing creative and professional researchers in the field of fine arts. The eligibility criteria for taking up this course is a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University with 50% marks. To know more about the courses, one can log on to the aforementioned website.
