IGNOU to Honor its Founder on Silver Jubilee

New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will honor its founder K C Pant on the occasion of its silver jubilee. IGNOU will hold a special silver jubilee felicitation function on October 1, 2010, at IGNOU Convention Centre. K C Pant, Former Union Minister and Founder of IGNOU, has accepted the invitation of attending the function as the Chief Guest. Mr Pant is responsible for piloting the IGNOU bill in the year 1985.
 
V N Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor (VC) of IGNOU, said that during the past 25 years IGNOU has demonstrated that quality higher education can be delivered the flexible Open Distance Learning (ODL) models, which they have greatly improved by harnessing the full power of ICTs. The union government has identified IGNOU as an important partner of reaching the national goal of 15 % enrolment in higher education by 2015.
 
The Open University was set up in 1985 to provide higher education opportunities to students from all sections of society, especially to students residing in rural areas. IGNOU has completed its 25th year of existence and has created a record of sorts at national as well as international level.  
 
IGNOU endeavors to deliver education according to its founders' vision. The University has played an important role in democratizing higher education and providing access to millions of students who are unable to enroll themselves in formal higher education institution.
