New Delhi: V N Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor (VC), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has said that the university will set up study centers in six European countries, to offer personalized courses which include Germany and France.
Mr Pillai has informed that IGNOU will open its centre in Paris next month. He added that negotiation is going on with Germany. He hopes that they swill start the center in Germany by the end of this year. Their target is to open five-six centers in Europe by July 2011.
Furthermore, Mr Pillai has said that IGNOU would also offer personalized courses in Gandhian studies and some in Indian languages such as Sanskrit through its new study centers in Europe, besides the regular courses. He said that they are in discussion with several institutes in US, Australia and Europe to develop personalized courses. It will be done keeping in mind the needs of partner institutes.
Moreover, he mentioned that the fee is quite low compare when you compare it with what is charged by universities in the developed countries. He said that they are planning to restructure the fees for courses offered outside India.
IGNOU is also planning to introduce E-books within six months to popularize its courses among high-tech students, according to the VC. The university also plans to introduce video-conferencing facilities for all its 56 overseas study centers within a few months. Initially, the university will start E-books with management and IT courses and introduces it for all the courses gradually.
