New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is all set to start its centre in London from July this year, which aims to offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Apart from this, according to the officials, after London, IGNOU would be planning to expand its reach and set up a center in Paris as well.
IGNOU, as a part of its plan to spread across the message of education, aims to spread its wings in the international arena as well. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, has said that by the end of this month, the notification for the proposed London centre is expected to arrive. He further added that subjects like management, IT, computer science and intellectual property rights will initially be focused on.
In addition, a fact-finding mission is also planned to be constituted within a month, which will look for information on prospective students and it is based on these findings that IGNOU will formulate the curriculum for the centre in London. However, some IGNOU officials revealed that the London venture, despite the university's experience in running centres abroad, might not prove to be an easy task, as it is expected to face a tough competition from the UK Open University (UKOU).
