New Delhi: The community college scheme of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will now include the Indian Air Force and Navy in its domain. As per sources, the scheme aims to empower individuals by providing educational certification. According to a statement, the university and two forces will soon be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU will empower the servicemen, statement added.
S P Kochar, Major General, Additional Director General-Personnel Services of the Indian Army, said that the IGNOU community college scheme allows the in-service training of jawans to be recognized, which helps the soldiers to get better career opportunities post retirement.
As per sources, the servicemen will be awarded with an educational certification recognizing the in service training done by them. Further, sources told that a similar MoU was signed between IGNOU and the Indian Army. According to that MoU, the Army-IGNOU community colleges will function as autonomous bodies conducting examinations.
