IISc to Use IIT-JEE Scores for Admission to B Sc Programme

Mumbai: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, Karnataka, will use the scores of Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination, popularly known as IIT-JEE, for enrolling candidates into its four year Bachelor of Science (B Sc) programme from the academic session 2011. As per sources, the institute will use four more entrance exams apart from IIT-JEE to select 120 students for its B Sc programme.
 
Faculty at IISc told the sources that the programme will be embedded in engineering, but will have touches of social sciences. As per sources, students will be allowed to choose a specialization in their fourth semester. As per the institute’s official website, specialization is designed to cater to the vocational interest of a student.
 
Further, sources informed that the programme will conclude with the students working on a research project for the last two semesters. Sources added that apart from IISc, all the Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research (IISER) and Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) will also use IIT-JEE scores to select its candidates.
