IIT Delhi To Conduct its Sixth I2Tech Open House on April 24

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) will organize its sixth I2Tech Open House on Saturday i.e. on April 24, 2010. The event will be organized in the institute’s campus in which nearly 300 projects of students as well as of the faculty will be exhibited.
 
IIT- Delhi will showcase a wide range of projects taken up in the past one year, which ranges from virtual laboratories and mentha oil formulation for housefly control to low-cost bamboo structures and waterless urinals. Professor Surendra Prasad, Director of IIT Delhi has said that the open house will be organized to generate excitement about science among students who visit the campus and to give them a peep into the goings-on in IIT-D. He also said that nearly 3,000 students had visited last year and they have already sent invitations to various neighborhood schools.
 
Mr Prasad also mentioned that entering its sixth year, I2Tech still promises to be a real treat. Furthermore, this year’s open house will also have an interactive session with the automobile industry. Apart from providing three prizes worth Rs 30,000 to the projects displayed at the open house, the alumni association will give an additional grant of Rs 1 lakh. The event is open for all and visitors will be able to interact with the faculty and students and visit the laboratories too.
 
As per sources, IIT-D has made 30 virtual labs in the pilot project commissioned by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). These labs may be formally launched within a year after which students in other institutes in the country will be able to share and see the experiments happening in IIT-D.
