Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee, Railway Minister has made the announcement that shortly the Indian Railways is expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT-K). The MoU would be signed with the objective to promote research and development in the organization.
As per sources, while inaugurating a computerized reservation counter in southern part of Kolkata, the Railway Minister has made the announcement. Ms Banerjee mentioned that on February 13, 2010, Indian Railways will sign the MoU with IIT-K in order to encourage research and development activities for the railways. She also added that they are also likely to propose scholarships for IIT-K students to carry out research activities.
Further, she also mentioned that Indian Railways would set up 372 diagnostic centres, 44 first-class hospitals and 88 second-class hospitals across the country. Moreover, the railways would provide land and the Union Health Ministry would develop the medical infrastructure on those lands. In order to develop such health projects railways have already signed a MoU with the Union Health Ministry.
