Lucknow University (LU) has received clean chit, by the University Grants Commission (UGC) team, after the latter's visit.

Lucknow University Gets UGC Clean Chit

Lucknow: On Wednesday i.e. April 21, 2010, a team from University Grants Commission (UGC) visited the Lucknow University (LU). LU received clean chit after the visit by the UGC team. The reason behind the visit of UGC team was to assess the performance of the universities, with reference to UGC grants given to them under 10th and 11th plan.
 
Prof A K Sengupta, Director, Development Planning Board of LU, has said that the performance of the University was found upto the mark by the team. He said that LU hopes to get larger amount of funds in future from UGC in order to upgrade academic profile of the university. LU put up three of its significant necessities - upgradation of computer centre, conference hall and auditorium on the new campus and guest house on the new campus. The University cannot meet these requirements for want of sufficient funds.
 
The UGC team led was by Dr Archana Thakur, Deputy Secretary, UGC, who met the representatives from five of the state universities, including LU. There were at least three representatives, each from Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya Avadh University, Faizabad, Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi and Lucknow University.
 
Furthermore, the UGC team plans to meet representatives of seven other universities from the state on Thursday i.e. April 22, 2010. LU will play host to representatives from Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Handicapped University, Chitrakoot, Kumaun University, Nainital, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, Veer Bahadur Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, Sampoornanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi and Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur.
