Delhi High Court has directed UGC and DU to conduct an investigation into the suspected embezzlement of funds by Ramjas College management.

Court orders investigation into financial lapses of Ramjas College

New Delhi: On Wednesday i.e. March 23, 2011 Delhi High Court directed the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Delhi University (DU) to conduct an inquiry to look into the controversial misuse of funds made by the Ramjas College management.
 
The Delhi High Court also asked them to probe the alleged inappropriate decisions made by the college management regarding the appointment of new staff and sanction of employee’s provident fund.
 
Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the division bench of Delhi High Court said that, to maintain transparency, the DU and the UGC are directed to conduct the inquiry as serious allegations were made against college management.
 
On Wednesday, the courts was hearing a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) filed by the Delhi University Forum for Accountability and Democratization. The petition also said that the court must direct the Comptroller and Auditor General of India to conduct an audit of the college accounts.
 
As per sources, it said that there was a huge misappropriation in the new appointments, membership of college’s governing body and promotion in teaching as well as non-teaching posts. The alleged petition has led a direction to the university to exercise its regulatory role over Ramjas College.
