DU Issues New Admissions Guidelines for Students

New Delhi: Today i.e. on April 20, 2011, University of Delhi, popularly known as Delhi University (DU),has reportedly issued new admission guidelines and instructions. According to the sources, these new admission guidelines are developed in such a way, which completely complies with the changes that had been made to this year’s admission process.

As per the new guidelines issued, DU will now declare the cutoffs on the basis of past experience and this year’s board examination results. However, the pre-admission Optical Magnetic Resonance (OMR) forms which had been used for admission last year, have been discontinued. In addition, the DU aspirants will get another extra day after the first cutoff list has been declared in order to get admissions and submission of fees to prospective colleges.

Sources also informed that the new admission procedure is expected to be more students friendly and suitable for them. Also according to the new guidelines, there will be total five cutoffs unlike last year’s four cutoffs as well as aspiring students will now get four days to seek admissions to colleges which was only three days earlier.

Along with the change of pre-admission OMR forms, the University has decided to enroll all the students who come under the marks of cutoff lists, instead of first-come-first-serve basis, which was used in the last session. Likewise, it has also been made mandatory by the university to include information on 'additional eligibility' along with its justification.

In addition, colleges will also be allowed to publish their own prospectus providing information regarding colleges, courses offered, fee structure and extra-curricular activities, etc. DU has already declared the new guidelines for admission to undergraduate courses at the university. The university further announced that the admission forms for the sports and extra-curricular activities category will be sold at the respective colleges from the date of declaration of the second cutoff list.

Furthermore, students who wish to cancel their admission in one college and would like to migrate to another one of their choice after the declaration of a subsequent cutoff list will be allowed to do so. Moreover, the college will immediately return their documents and refund their fees within 24 hours, instead of taking long time.

Most importantly, the admission guidelines have remained unaffected for the reserved categories of scheduled castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), persons with disabilities, children of war widows and Jammu and Kashmir migrants.
