Four More DU Colleges to Accept CATE Score

New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) affiliated four new colleges have decided to follow the Common Aptitude Test for English (CATE) score, to offer admission into English Hons course.

As per sources, the four new colleges which are going to select students on the basis of CATE scores are Janki Devi memorial college, Vivekanand College, Rajdhani College and Kirori Mal College. Although, last year there were only 17 DU colleges which participated in the CATE, but this year the number is increased to 20.

Last year, Lady Shri Ram College was a part of CATE but has now opted out of the entrance test and following its packed academic calendar. Sumanyu Satpathy, Head of the English Department of LSR said that despite having a good experience with the test last year, LSR had to pull out of the CATE exam due to lack of teachers needed to help with the procedure.

In addition, talking about the test paper, Satpathy said that there might be a slight change in the format of the CATE test, this year. He also added that the process for deciding and discussing the format and content of the test is still in review process.

Last year, the CATE question paper was divided into two parts, one with the multiple choice questions or objective question while other was a subjective paper. The second part was assessed only if the students managed to clear the cut-off in objective part.

According to the sources, over 800 students are expected to take up CATE 2011 in order to seek admission into the English (Hons) programme of DU across the allied 20 colleges. The sale and receipt of the forms will start on May 18, 2011 and the CATE test will be held on June 12, 2011.
