New Delhi: Delhi University has decided to provide special assistance to students belonging to northeast region who come to seek admission into its various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Therefore, the University has decided to set up a help desk in order to provide them with the required assistance, this year.
Initially, students belonging to northeastern states were helped by volunteers from different student organizations from the northeast. The reason behind such assistance was the absence of a nodal authority to aid the students. Last year, a deputy dean of students' welfare was appointed by the university in order to help students belonging to all the seven northeastern states. Even this year, the university has taken this further and decided to include student counselor in the dean's office as well.
Sources have informed that, N. Santacruz, the deputy dean of students' welfare at the university, has been entrusted with the responsibility of counseling and assisting students belonging to the northeastern states. He said that this year the university will have northeast students as counselors so that they are able to understand the problems faced by students from this area. He also added that they have already trained a counselor for attending to the main queries, who will be at the main help desk.
In addition, the task of volunteering students from northeast states will also be provided in the field during the admission process at the university. Information regarding admissions and DU measures will be provided by the office of the dean. He also informed that he was working hard on getting about a total of 40 teachers from across DU colleges who belong to northeast, to voluntarily come forward and provide assistance to the students.
