DU Semester Based Syllabi Gets Panel Approval

New Delhi: Finally, Delhi University (DU's) Standing Committee of the Academic Council has given its approval for 50-odd semester based syllabi.

Sources have informed that the committee has studied the course structures. Now, they can be sent to the Academic Council and Executive Council for the final authorization. On Friday the syllabi will be placed before the AC for the final authorization. Supposedly, the courses are to adopt the semester mode from the ensuing session commencing from July 21. According to a committee member the syllabi were presented by the departments, which were passed with applicable amendments. Also, with this the approval of semester based courses is complete.

The semester mode will be applicable for courses such as English, economics, history, computer science, geography, sociology, political science, home science and physical education, among others. In case of courses such as economics, political science, history and geography only the first two semester courses were passed. The reason behind the delay is that the rest of the syllabi is yet to be prepared by the respective departments.

In 2010, Delhi University for the first time adopted the semester mode for undergraduate degree level across 13 science courses. Due to teachers' opposition, it could not implement the system in other streams. However, the semester implementation will now be completed this year with its introduction across arts, commerce, mathematical science, social science and science faculties.
