New Delhi: With sky high cut-off, School of Open Learning (SOL) is the last option left for Delhi University (DU) aspirants. SOL, which offers distance education, is flooded with applications who do not meet the high criteria of the DU affiliated regular colleges.
As per sources, SOL, annually receives over 300,000 applications and offers courses in humanities and commerce streams through distance learning programmes. According to a statement issued by SOL assistant registrar S.K. Lamba, students who are unable to take admission due to the high cut-offs of DU and still want the university's tag are applying at SOL. He also added that some students these days want to learn and at same earn also, so they join SOL.
Students enrolling SOL are able to pursue a vocational course as well as a course of their choice through distance learning. The benefit of the distance learning school is that student's do not have to attend classes compulsorily. The classes take place only on weekends.
Initially, SOL had 900 students when it was started in 1962. However, last year, the number reached several hundreds of thousands. SOL follows the criteria of enrolling students who have scored minimum marks of 40 %.
