New Delhi: After the recent uproar about the attendance shortage of over 400 students, university of Delhi, also known as Delhi University (DU), has finally decided to solve all the attendance-related hassles.
The University is planning to keep the students’ attendance records on its website. With the start of the online attendance facility, all teachers will have to submit their daily logs which will be updated on the University’s website, on the same day itself.
The problems so aroused in the recent days resulted in the stern criticism of the administration by the students and teaching faculty, particularly for the last-minute calculation and notification of attendance. While some colleges like Dayal Singh followed the manual attendance list and removed over 90 students for shortage of attendance, other colleges like Miranda house let the students appear for the exams with an undertaking.
Online attendance system will be helpful for both the students and administration, as the students will be able to manage their attendance records and those in trouble due to low attendance would no more complain about the last-minute notifications.
While maintaining the attendance records online, parents will be aware of their wards’ whereabouts and their performance, in terms of the number of classes attended at college. Since DU will now follow the semester system, securing good attendance is compulsory and this new idea will further add to its benefit. Further, students failing to make up to 40% attendance will not be permitted to appear for the exams and will have to apply for fresh admissions in the next session.
