Patna: The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal spotted in Patna today. He was here to lay the foundation stone of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Patna campus.
Sources said that Sibal arrived here on Monday night; however, the event took place today. While laying the foundation stone of IIT-Patna, the minister said that the government was committed to the development of all new Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT).
He also added that the construction of this leading technology institute would be completed within three years. This institution will be sprawling over 500 acres of land near Bihta, which is about 30 km away from Patna. After laying the foundation stone, Sibal said that the central government was committed to the development of all new IITs, including IIT-Patna.
In addition, this occasion was also graced by Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar. During the convention, he said that the state government had handed over 463 acres of acquired land last year. He formally handed over the papers for the 500 acres of land to IIT-Patna director Anil K. Bhowmick.
The director of IIT-Patna, Bhowmick said that the campus is being designed by the Kolkata-based Development Architect Private Ltd. IIT-Patna has been running at a temporary polytechnic campus in Patna since August 2008.
