IGNOU Introduces Syllabus for Certificate in Indigenous Art Practices Programme

New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has developed a set of course for Certificate in Indigenous Art Practices (CIAP) programme. As per sources, the programme was launched by the university under Guru-Shishya Parampara Scheme. The programme provides a forum for interaction of various cultures, document various forms of folk and tribal music and dances, sources added.
 
In addition, sources told that the course also establishes support mechanism for the art forms that are vanishing fast. The programme is a 16 credit course. Out of 16, 14 credits are for Practical with the broad categories of Traditional Knowledge, Art Forms and Folk Skills and 2 for theory. As per sources, a three-day orientation programme of the indigenous art forms was organized at the IGNOU Headquarters.
 
Sources told that School of Performing and Visual Arts (SOPVA), in pact with Educational Development North Eastern Region Unit (EDNERU), organized the orientation programme. IGNOU was established in 1985 and was named after the Ex-Prime Minister of India, Late Smt Indira Gandhi. It offers educational programmes that are considered at par with the education provided by any other recognized institute of the country.
