IIM-R Set to Give Shape to Vision

Ranchi: Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (IIM-R) is all set with an idea and strategic plan document for the next five years, which anticipates a number of region-specific ideas and to be implemented in phases.

M.J. Xavier, IIM-R Director, has said that in the pipeline were plans to open centres for business analytics, neuro-management (with a tie up with Kanke-based Central Institute of Psychiatry), research in Indian management, mining and manufacturing, inclusive growth and regional development and e-governance. Also, fields including health management, transportation management, sports management, media management and sustainability and green management would be incorporated in gradually. As per sources, for the centre for business analytics, IIM-R is in talks with Citibank and IBM for support.

In addition, the institute will also introduce a postgraduate diploma course in management (PGDM), equivalent to an MBA, for working professionals from this year. The three-year course would be taught on weekends. Presently, IIM Ranchi offers a two-year full-time PGDM for which aspirants are selected through the common admission test (CAT). However, CAT scores will not be the criteria for a seat in the PGDM programme for working professionals, and the institute is yet to decide the mode of selecting candidates for the part-time programme.

Mr Xavier has said that the programme will be a great help for executives in companies operating in the state. Meanwhile, IIM-R, in consultation with its mentor IIM-C, has already shortlisted names of about 40 aspirants who have applied for teaching posts in the new management cradle.

Moreover, the first batch of 44 IIM-R students is being taught by faculty from IIM-C. But after the recruitment of quality teachers, there would be less dependence on guest faculty. In coming years, IIM-R also aims to start courses in PGDM in business analytics, fellow programme in management, faculty development programme for other management institutes and in-company programmes on management, among others.
