New Delhi: All the first year students at Indian Institute of Management (IIM-Ranchi) have secured paid internship, this year. Total of 51 offers were made by 24 firms from diverse sectors for 44 students in the first-year batch. In addition, two students bagged international internship in Singapore and Malaysia.
The summer internship is always considered to be significant for the students because in most cases it translates into final job offer. Since big multi-national companies offer placements for summer internship, students can get a feel of the practical work, build up contacts and expect final placements with better packages in future.
Ajay Patel student convener of IIM Ranchi has said that a diverse range of profiles had been offered to the students in this year's internship placements. He said that apart from the regular profiles such as sales and marketing, corporate banking, operations and human resource, the students have got opportunity in other sectors also.
Mr Patel also added that students have got placements in financial consulting, strategy, hospitality management, IT consulting, statistics and economic research. According to Patel, sales and marketing was the most preferred area on campus with 31.82 per cent offers, while finance roles were second with 29.54 per cent offers. Offers from operations and consulting were around 11.36 per cent and 13.64 per cent, respectively.
Furthermore, Mr Patel has mentioned that a multi-national market research company offered international summer internships to two students in Singapore and Malaysia. The highest stipend offered was Rs 1.6 lakh. He also added that the average stipend offered to the batch of 44 students was close to Rs 55,000 for two months.
