Bangalore: Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are renowned for their academic excellence and creating cutting edge management professionals to take up leading positions in various industries across India and the world. The advanced teaching methods and remarkable learning environment have made these graduate B-schools top institutions for management studies. To take a step further in delivering quality education, the IIMs have decided to launch new programmes in management in different sectors.
In a recent meeting held between Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Kapil Sibal and IIM directors, introduction of new programs will be made in the regions of academic institution management, agriculture management, health management, law management, and energy management, thereby breaking the traditional curricula of finance and business management. Sources have revealed that a new taskforce will be established for setting up the outline of these programs.
The minister said that the recommendations made by the committee will further be discussed and finalized at the next meeting of the ministry and the IIMs. As per sources, no fixed time frame has been announced to launch the new programs, though the change in the list of programs offered to students applying for admission in the IIMs can be implemented from the next term. However, the management committee is concerned about the number for students opting for these new management courses since the major deciding factor for seeking admission in the IIMS is attractive remuneration packages in established organizations.
To ensure that no seats are left vacant after completing the admission procedure, IIMs have agreed to share all information about admission with the students and post individual admission criteria on their websites. The possibilities of how successful will the academic programs in areas of health, education, and infrastructure be, will further be explored by the IIMs. Furthermore, an international road show will be organized in order to pool resources for attracting talented candidates from foreign lands, without affecting the intake of Indian students.
