Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi (IIT-Delhi) receives additional funding of Rs 150 crore in order to promote research. Also, the institute initiated with an internal research encouragement fund with an amount of Rs 60 crore to allow students and faculty to take up research projects.
Sources have informed that the number of PhDs to be awarded by the institute this year at the convocation on Saturday has also gone up to 173 when compared to 138 last year. IIT-D will also send its research scholars to attend conferences abroad. Each of them will be sent abroad at least once during the course of their projects.
Moreover, the receiver of the Research Scholar Travel Award will get a funding of up to Rs 80,000 from the research promotion fund to travel abroad. Besides, IIT-D has also received Rs 50 crore from its alumni for certain projects. As part of its expansion plans, IIT-D is looking at setting up a second campus in Haryana. IIT-D director Surendra Prasad has said that Haryana government has agreed to give us 100-acre land though the location is still not decided. He also added that the second campus is likely to be the hub of research activities.
