IIT-Kanpur Annual Festival Commences From Feb 17

Kanpur: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur annual technical and entrepreneurship festival 'Techkriti' will commence from February 17, 2011. As per sources, the four-day event, which is said to be one of the largest technical festivals in Asia, has total prize money of Rs 22 lakh to offer to those who will emerge as winners of various competitions. Meanwhile, the event will be inaugurated on February 17 at 6 pm on IIT-K campus by festival co-ordinator in the presence of IIT-K authorities.

Above 1,500 students from various renowned colleges like IITs, IIMs, NITs will be participating in the 27 events scheduled to be held during the technical fest. 'Techkriti-2011' will be a bundle of workshops, exhibitions and competitions. Moreover, workshops at Techkriti will be conducted by professionals from industry, guests and faculty members of IIT-Kanpur who will provide a platform for strong academia-industry interaction and help students learn and appreciate the real fun in learning.

Palash Soni, the festival co-ordinator, has informed that competitions like unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise control, robots got talent, robogames, simulation game on the great wall of China, reactable (musical user interface), interactive floor, interactive robots, the aero modelling events, Innovate - design events (including Junkyard Wars, Rube Goldberg etc) will be the star attractions this year.

Amit Chandra, one of the festival organizers and a BTech student of IIT-Kanpur, has informed that apart from these workshops, eminent people including Vladimir Voevodsky (Russian mathematician), Bruce E Melnick (Astronaut NASA), Michael Gratzel, a designer of Millau Viaduct-a bridge designed in France which has a height of 373 meters, David Bismark-developer of E Voting machines, Ashish Gupta, Managing Director, Hellion Ventures, Chander Baljee, founder Royal Orchid Hotels will be taking part in talk shows organized on their campus. He also mentioned that these eminent personalities will be interacting with IIT-K students during the chat shows.
