IIT-Madras to Organize its Tech Fest

Chennai: The civil engineering department of the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras (IIT-Madras) is hosting its annual department festival namely CEA Fest, this weekend. The tech fest will exhibit the concrete achievements of its students that have taken months and even years to evolve from a design on paper to real structures.

As per sources, about 150 students have worked for the last two months to organize the CEA Fest, which will include events like the Civil War with students and professors teaming up to quiz opponents on various topics, robotics, and a CAD contest. Besides, get ready to be astonished by the tallest tensegrity tower in Asia and the second tallest in the world, a concrete canoe that not only floats on water but also ferries two people across and other technical achievements at the CEA Fest.

Ashwin Mahalingam, member of the faculty and convenor of the civil engineering association has said that in the classroom they give the students a lot of technical instruction on how to design structures, but no real training on how to interact with people or manage projects and finance, which come with the job. He added that the CEA Fest is an attempt to help the students improve the implementation of technical skills, and bring out their communication and leadership skills.
