Bangalore: The Aero India 2011 edition will witness the active participation of students and faculty from at least five Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) across the nation. The IITians will be presenting their ideas on advanced concepts in aerospace and aircraft development.
As per sources, IIT-Kanpur is likely to participate provided that it has a strong aerospace department. Students are expected to make presentations on aerofoils and delta-wing and build a model of aircraft wing. Those of IIT Mumbai are likely to look at presentations on miniature aerial vehicles, composites and propulsion related to power and engines. Besides, propulsion is a hot-and-happening area as engine development in the nation which requires an urgent intellectual effort. IIT Delhi and IIT Chennai have plans to make presentations on aerospace.
Defence officials confirmed that IITs had approached them to participate in Aero India. According to the statement issued by a Defence official many engineering students are coming to the show and they expect exclusive sessions on aerospace. He also added that they want their technical students to get first-hand feel of the aero show. This will be the second time IIT students and faculty will be at the venue.
In addition, students and faculty may also be given a ride on one of the largest transport aircraft as part of a live experience. During the 2009 show, the director and officials of NAL and DRDO were flown in C-130J Hercules transport plane.
