Jamia to Function New Centers for Chinese and Afghanistan Studies from Next Session

New Delhi: Students applying for various courses and programmes in Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, can now opt from a broader array of subjects. The University is launching two new centers, namely, Centre for Chinese Studies and Centre for Afghanistan Studies from the next academic session. With this, students filling application forms for MPhil or PhD programmes will have two new courses to pursue higher studies.

Being one of the oldest universities in India, the two new departments will add about 45 acres of lush green land to the vast sprawling campus, thereby contributing to the expansion of the University. Further, they will be managed by Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar (MMAJ) Academy of International Studies. Confirming the news, Shri Prakash, professor at MMAJ Academy of International Studies, said that the centers will function from March 2012.

Prakash further added that the candidates should be well-versed with spoken and written Chinese and Afghanistan in order to apply to the respective centers. The launch of the two new programmes will offer better and attractive career opportunities for successful students in the fields of print media, civil services, and as professors in esteemed universities. The University also plans to set up a Centre for Nano-sciences and Nanotechnology, as told by Najeeb Jung, Vice-Chancellor, JMI, at the annual convocation held recently. The funds for establishing the centre have been approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC), he concluded.

The launch of Centre for Nano-sciences and Nanotechnology will add another feather to the cap in the field of chemistry. Students desiring to pursue chemistry at higher study levels will have broader prospects to look forward. Medicine, biomaterials and energy production and its environmental impacts are some major areas that are likely to offer rewarding job openings.
