Srinagar: Kashmir University has started with the procedure of digitalizing rare manuscript in order to secure the heritage and historical literature of the state. Further, sources informed that these manuscripts will be available at the university's official website.
Riyaz Rufai, Head of the Kashmir University Library said that they want people to have access to the manuscripts. For this they are digitizing and uploading them on their website, so that people come to know of the wealth of manuscripts that they possess. Through this, they will be able to use them for their research, studies and other things, he added.
Sources told that university students and scholars have greeted the verdict. The decision will enhance the preservation of Kashmir’s heritage, sources added. Mudasir Ahmad, an Islamic scholar in the university said that there are many old historically relevant books. It is a very good thing that it is going online, as everyone will be able to access them, he added.
Further, Mr. Ahmad said that another good thing is that a trend of storing the history of Kashmir has started. Besides, he added that wider access to the manuscripts would lead to the unraveling of many other aspects of Kashmir's history.
