Pune: The botanical garden at the botany department of University of Pune (UOP) is all set for a makeover, which is worth Rs 15 lakh. As per sources, the department has been given a grant worth Rs 15 lakh for renovation and expansion work.
Moreover, sources have informed that the decision was taken at the national seminar held at the university recently. In a year’s time, the garden, which is spread in an area of three acre, will be developed on various fronts. UoP Vice-Chanceller Raghunath Shevgaonkar, assistant registrar of planning and development SJ Bokephode, registrar Manik Jadhav, and PCUD director Vasudev Gade were among those who attended the national seminar on bio-diversity and sustainable development.
In addition, the management also plans to include an experimental plot for a micro-propogation lab, which will enhance research facilities. Also in the pipeline are sanadal park, bamboo park, nakshatra park and palm park. The department has also been sanctioned additional three acres.
