Jaipur: The Government of Rajasthan has requested All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to keep a hold on giving approvals for next few sessions to the new engineering and management colleges. AICTE is the main advisory and statutory body for technical education system in the country.
Vipin Chandra Sharma, the State principal secretary for technical education, told sources that the excess number of engineering and management colleges is hampering the development of technical education in the state. For the last two sessions, more than 6000 management and over 5000 engineering seats have been falling vacant. He added that even offering direct admissions is not able to serve the purpose of filling the vacant seats in these colleges.
The widening of demand and supply gap in technical education is the main reason for which the Rajasthan Government has asked AICTE to hold permissions for new colleges in the state, he concluded.
According to sources, currently, the state of Rajasthan has 133 management colleges with 10,580 seats and 122 engineering colleges with over 50,000 seats. However, the presence of around 20 private universities in the state is only making the situation worse.
