11 Lakh Students Appear for AIEEE 2012 Offline Paper

New Delhi: Around 11 Lakh students appeared for the offline version of 11th All India Engineering Entrance Examination, popularly known as AIEEE. The entrance test was conducted on April 29, 2012. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is likely to declare the results on June 15, 2012.
 
As per sources, the number of students appearing for the entrance exam has increased stupendously over the previous years. About 10, 53,807 students had appeared for the examination last year, in both online and offline modes, conducted at 1685 centers across 86 cities in India.
 
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has further announced that more than 1,64,000 students are likely to sit for the online paper, which is scheduled to be conducted at 221 centers across 22 selected cities throughout India. In addition, the online paper window will be open from May 7, 2012 to May 26, 2012.
 
The three-hour AIEEE entrance examination included four versions of question papers, each one comprising of 90 questions. The test paper consisted of 30 multiple choice questions, each from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for a total of 360 marks. Officials stated that the difficulty level of the entrance test was 10% easier compared to the paper conducted last season. Also, the Physics section proved to be the toughest.
 
AIEEE is regarded as one of the prime engineering entrance examinations of India after IIT-JEE, conducted for admission into undergraduate engineering (B Tech/BE) and architecture (B Arch) courses into Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and 30 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), besides five Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), central and state-funded institutions, self-financed deemed universities and other institutions.
