Department of History, University of Calcutta, also known as Calcutta University, Kolkata, West Bengal, has invited applications from eligible candidates for admission into PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) programme in History, to be offered in the upcoming academic session 2012-13. Admission will be made on the basis of candidate’s performance in the entrance test, followed by personal interview to be conducted by the University department.
Note: Those candidates who have already passed UGC / (JRF) Examinations / NET / SET examinations, and those who have M Phil degrees from recognized Universities, need not appear for the written examination and can directly apply to appear for the interview.

How to Apply
Interested candidates may obtain the prescribed application form from the office of the Department of History, Calcutta University, Department of History, University of Calcutta, 1 Reformatory Street, and Kolkata-27. Candidates should apply in the prescribed proforma by paying Rs 100 (the amount is subject to change) through a Challan obtainable from the College Street campus (cash counter). One can also download the same from the University's official website: http://www.caluniv.ac.in/. The duly filled-in and completed application form, along with all requisite enclosure documents (details given on the website), should be submitted at the office of the Department of Biotechnology, Calcutta University.
