New Delhi: Good news for school students! Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to include students in its course committees. It is for the first time that the Board has decided to take such a bold step. As per the decision, students from schools affiliated to the CBSE will get a chance to participate, place their opinion, and provide inputs to course committees during periodic meetings.
As per sources, the CBSE has course committees for all its courses including vocational subjects. In addition, each committee is rearranged in every three years. This committee mainly discusses, debates, collects various inputs and ideas related to subject disciplines and reviews them to suit the needs of its students, parents and society.
According to sources, students who have passed out of Class XII in March, 2012, based on their performance and in talk with the schools, are being nominated by CBSE. Moreover, the Board is quite positive about the active contribution of the student nominees towards the development of its courses. The course committee primarily consists of professors from universities, experts from National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), teachers and subject experts from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan, private as well as public schools and practicing teachers.
While discussing about the same, Vineet Joshi, Chairman, CBSE, said that the Board wants to make the courses and syllabus more inclusive and application-based. He further added that since the courses and syllabus prepared by the committees is to be followed by the students, the Board will hear their voice. Moreover, inputs given by the students will help in designing the courses better, he concluded.
