New Delhi: Department of English, Delhi University (DU), Delhi, organized Common Admission Test for English 2012, also known as CATE, today i.e. on June 9, 2012. This most awaited admission test was conducted at 11.00 am across 22 centres in the city.
As per sources, around 15,000 applicants took the CATE, for admission to BA (honours) English in any of the 21 participating colleges. Some of the popular participating colleges include Lady Shri Ram College, Kirori Mal College, Miranda House, Kamla Nehru College and Indraprastha College for Women. The test was divided into two sections — objective and writing skills.
The first section, eliminatory in nature, had objective-type questions to check literary awareness of candidates while the second part had comprehension passage and an essay. However, the second section will be checked only if an aspirant qualifies in the first one.
Admission to BA (H) English in the CATE colleges will be based on CATE’s score, which is arrived at by giving 70% weightage to the entrance test and 30% to Class XII marks.
