Bangalore: Here is good news for thousands of aspiring MBA students who wish to get admission in Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). For them, the chances of getting into the most reputed management schools will get much higher from this year i.e. 2012. As per sources, many institutes have decided to raise their intake of students. Out of the total 13 IIMs across the country, the latest ones will admit more students in 2012, with some likely to double the number of current seats offered.
Sources confirmed that the IIMs at Tiruchirappalli, Udaipur and Raipur will witness a hike in intake. However, IIM Raipur, in its third year of existence, will increase the batch size for the first time from 70 to 120. The other two, IIM Trichy (Tiruchirappalli) and IIM Udaipur, whose second batch will be picked from CAT 2011, will also increase the seats to 120. In addition, among the six older IIMs, Kozhikode will increase the number of seats.
While discussing about the hike in the number of seats, Anandakuttan B Unnithan, Chairperson (Admissions), IIM-K, said that last year, the scheduled intake was 300, but the number of students went up to 328. Keeping last year’s situation in mind, the target is anticipated to 380-390 for this year, he added.
Moreover, IIM-Rohtak will make a slight change that is to round off its intake of 124 to 130, whereas IIM-Calcutta is planning to touch the 460-mark and IIM-Ranchi is yet to make a decision. However, the other prominent institutes like IIM-Bangalore, IIM Lucknow and IIM-Shillong will stick to their previous intake.
