IP University Attracts 12000 Applicants for BCom (H)

New Delhi: The newly introduced BCom (H) course at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has attracted 12,000 applicants with two more days to go for the end of registration procedure for the 2013-14 enrolment. The University has a total capacity of just around 1,000 seats for BCom (H) course which is one-eight the number at DU.

PRO IP University, Nalini Ranjan, said that so far they have received around 12,000 applications. He mentioned that the total number of applicants has also increased this year to 1.8 lac from that of 1.72 lac of last year across courses. According to the University officials the rush is not only due to the popularity of the course. Moreover, DU's shift to four-year undergraduate courses might have also encouraged some students to apply at IP University.

As per sources, with this, BCom (H) seeks the third position among the most sought after course in the university, after engineering and law programmes. It is also the university's first non-professional course. In addition, many students are applying as they are not sure whether they will be able to meet the high cut-offs of DU colleges, also there are students who are not certain of joining a four-year degree course.

However, IP University officials, though, denied the fact that was any competition. Pradeep Upamanyu, joint registrar at IP University, said that DU's cut-offs will be 95% and above and those students will prefer DU. He mentioned that most of their students will have 85-95 %. Moreover, he added that nevertheless BCom (H) has emerged as a new sought after course for their university.
