Jaipur: Rajasthan University is planning to boost admission for the seats allotted to the Sports category. Over the years, the enrollment under sports category has turned down, which has affected in the performance of the 30 different sports teams participated in the various competitions organized round the year.
The Rajasthan University Sports Board has decided to restore the facilities and make additions to the present system. Mahendra Singh Chundawat, Secretary, University Sports Board said that last year, they had minimum number of students under this category. He also stated that this year, the university is expecting a considerable increase in the number, in connection with the massive improvement in the facilities from new sports equipments or kits, renovating grounds, floodslights on the tracks, and a proposal of sports hostel is on the cards.
The university hasn’t set any code for students seeking admission under the sports quota. Therefore, countless number of students can take admission under sports category. The university board has created three major categories for students i.e., those candidates represented India in an individual capacity, or as a team member at international level, and those who hold any position nationally can enroll directly in any department or subject.
As per sources, the university has announced additional 5% marks for those candidates who have participated at the national level, and at inter university level. Mahendra Singh Chundawat, Secretary has stated that allotments of 10% seats have been reserved for such candidates, as well as, there will be an increase in the number of additional perks for benefit of students from this year.
The university has also announced that the sports authority has seven coaches, including two staffers from RU staff at present, and six teachers of physical education will join soon. This year, Rajasthan University has got achievements in basketball, volleyball, handball and hockey (both male and females), out of 30 sports.
