VTU to Provide Exam Results through SMS

Bengaluru: One of the foremost technological universities in India, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) will now provide its examination results through SMS. As per the notification issued by the University, results of BE, MBA, M Tech and MCA examination will be provided through SMS from this academic year.

The University has 194 affiliated colleges under its jurisdiction and every semester, more than 3.25 lakh students appear for the examination. After inclusion of this new feature, students will get their exam results or their revaluation results in a short span of time on their mobile phones. Moreover, if students specify their E-mail ID, a copy of their results would also be sent to them through E-mail.

For obtaining regular exam results, students have to type the message: “Result USN E-mail ID” and send it to 5424204. And for revaluation results, they have to type: “REVAL USN E-mail ID” and send it to 5424204. Each affiliated college of the University has a unique USN number so students are advised to write appropriate USN number.

The cost for obtaining results through SMS will be Rs 1, 2 or 3, depending upon the telecom operator. Marks will be displayed in the format: Subject Code, External Marks, Internal Marks and Total Marks. Also, students can take a print out of provisional copy of the certificate, which will be mailed to them on their registered E-mail ID.

Mr H Maheshappa, Vice-Chancellor of VTU said that this is the need of time and considering the problems of rural areas students, the University has decided to introduce this feature. There are so many students in the rural areas who have no access to internet. Once the results are out, they either have to depend on their friends or the colleges. So, the University has made a right choice to reach out to them as in today's lifestyle mobile phones are easily accessible in every areas. He further added that the University is also planning to send announcements and news updates through SMS.
