DU B Com Program Increasing In Popularity

New Delhi: The increasing popularity ofDelhi University’s (DUs)B Com popularity is evident form the fact that this year the university received the maximum number of applications for it. As per the sources, the university has received nearly 47,000 applications for B Com, and 42,000 applications for B Com (Honours).

Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, Deputy Dean, Students’ Welfare, said that more number of students apply for B Com than B Com (honours) because the eligibility criteria for the later is stricter. One need Mathematics in class XII for B Com (Honours) but not for B Com. Therefore, those without Maths, including Humanities, are also considered eligible to apply for B Com. Though last year a large number of individual colleges had received maximum applications for B Com (Honours), B Com is topping the popularity charts this time.

The great rush for B Com is attributed to the soaring cut-offs that the colleges release for B Com (Honours) every year. B Com (Honours) cut-offs go beyond 90% in the popular colleges and hardly touch below 80% in the others. On the other hand, the cut-offs for B Com is usually lower than B Com (honours) by 2-3% in individual colleges. So for the aspirants, chances of making it in B Com are slightly more than getting admission in B Com (Honours). Moreover, the improved curriculum of B Com (earlier called the B Com Pass) has also put it in parity with B Com (Honours).
