New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) college libraries will go high-tech now. Libraries in several DU colleges will enjoy renovation.

Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) is prepared to make its library entirely automated. SRCC library would be fully air-conditioned and the college would install a radio frequency identification system (RFID) to keep a track on the books from the next academic session. P C Jain, Principal of SRCC, said for students benefit, an automatic machine would also be installed, so that they can take out prints of the journals or any such information available online. There are already 40 computers in the reading room.

SGTB Khalsa College is next in the queue of going high on technology too. After constructing a new classy reading room for the students last year, the college now plans to make the library completely web-based. Jaswinder Singh, Principal of SGTB Khalsa College, said that in the new system to be introduced, students would be able to check the availability of books on the college website and get them reserved too. Moreover, a student will also be able to issue a book by just scanning the bar code on the book and his/her identity card. Students will just have to show the book to an attendant. The staff will not be involved in the issue and receipt of books.

The library at Kirori Mal College housed in a separate block, has around 1.2 lakh books. It has CCTV cameras installed at strategic locations above the book shelves. Besides, all other facilities, the library have a rich collection. As per the sources, the library is updated with 3,000 books every year.
