SC Orders To Reopen Delhi University Admissions

New Delhi: There is good news for the ones who missed out the chance of enrollment at Delhi University (DU). Here comes a second chance of admission at DU, as the University, following a Supreme Court order, reopens admissions to fill up vacant OBC seats with general category students. Several colleges affiliated to DU have started converting their vacant OBC seats into general category ones. All unfilled OBC seats will now be released for open competition.

As per the sources, about 1,000 seats in different courses, across as many as 60 colleges, may once again be open for admission. These include the sought after institutions, such as Gargi College, Kirori Mal College and IP College, among others. IP College has as many as 60 seats vacant across courses such as History (Honours), English (Honours), B.A. (Programme) and Psychology (Honours). Hansraj has 45 seats to fill across 10 courses, which include Economics, Physics, Hindi, History and English.

SK Vij, Dean of Student’s Welfare - DU, said that the university is not involved. Colleges are free to admit students on their own. Students are, therefore, advised to check with the institutions individually. They can even accept fresh applications if they want. So, while some colleges (like Kirori Mal and Hansraj) are only accepting applications from students who had applied to them in June, there are also others (IP College and Maitreyi College) who are accepting fresh applications.
