IGNOU Supports Environmental Awareness Through Its Advanced Courses

Thiruvananthapuram: On Sunday i.e. on October 10, 2010,V N Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), said that the Open University will support environmental awareness through its advanced courses. The announcement was made in a press conference.
 
While attending the press conference, Mr. Pillai said that the short term certificate courses related to sustainable management of Ganga and Himalayan environment would create greater awareness and involvement of local communities and local Governments in the monitoring of water pollution in river and socio-economic development of the mountain habitations.
 

Further, Mr. Pillai added that use of scientific, social and local information would be very important for formulating environmental management plans. In addition, he elucidated that tracking the status and change in the socially relevant biophysical parameters and their social impacts where possible and on making this information available as widely as possible would be the focus of this programme.
