The Bombay High Court has asked Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT B) to give suggestions as to what caused the damage to a building in Andheri, due to work on the metro line's phase one.

IIT B to Assist in Metro 'Damage' Case

Mumbai: On Wednesday i.e. on December 22, 2010 the Bombay High Court (HC) has asked Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT B) to give alternate suggestions as to arrive at a conclusion on what caused the suspected damage to a building in Andheri, due to work on the metro line's phase one. As per sources, the court has said this while hearing a review petition filed by Varshana Cooperative Housing Society.

According to an IIT professor, R S Jangid, who had come to court had suggested trying out vibro hammer on the building site, but Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) informed the court that the foundation work had been completed and the machine was decommissioned over two years ago.

In addition, Monica Matani, member of the society and an original petitioner and advocate Simran Puri for the society expressed concern over the use of vibro hammer at this juncture. Moreover, the judges too expressed a similar concern. Puri has also said the IIT report now ought to be conclusive and not tentative.
