Lucknow University Teachers Soon To Be Financially Empowered

Lucknow: Lucknow University (LU) teachers will soon be empowered in the matter of financial self-sufficiency. The university is considering granting teachers individually an amount of money, which they can dispense in their future academic quest. The money allotted will help them carry on their research work, organize educational activities for their students or enhance their department's library.

Prof MK Mishra, LU Vice-Chancellor (VC) has mooted the idea of financially and academically empowering university teachers, last month. LU had set up the empowerment committee to decide about the execution of the idea. Also, a meeting of the heads of the departments to deliberate on the same was convened on Wednesday. The committee gave a go-ahead for the annual grant and also put in a few recommendations. It is expected that once the teachers get financially independent, it might give a boost to academic achievements and activities on the campus.

Further, an amount will be handed over to the HoDs and deans (for spending in departmental work) along with individual teachers. Deans would get an amount between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, depending on their requirement. On the other hand, HoDs would be given a sum between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh. The individual teachers, however, will get Rs 20,000 each. The deans and HoDs will also be getting Rs 20,000 for their own academic requirements. Besides, some of the departments, which have laboratories, might get some excess amount from others.
