Osmania University to Amend its Journalism Course

Hyderabad: Osmania University (OU) is all set to amend its Journalism course, which will be introduced with effect from 2011. The university has decided to make it a regular two-year master's course by combining the current one-year programmes for Bachelor in Mass Communication and Journalism (BCJ) and Masters in Communication and Journalism (MCJ).

As per sources, the decision is likely to get approved by the university senate as the Board of Studies of the Communication and Journalism Department has already passed an undisputed resolution regarding the same. Osmania University was the first university in India to start a course in Journalism. Also, the first one to provide a course in Journalism divided into two programmes, BCJ and MCJ, with separate entrance tests for each.

According to a Professor of the OU the course, which will be introduced with effect from 2011, will be adjusted with UGC guidelines for Master courses. He further added that the media today is expanding very rapidly and their department is also working towards starting an MA programme in Corporate Communications by way of distance learning through Prof. G. Ram Reddy Centre for Distance Education (PGRRCDE) from 2011.
