IIM-C Flooded with Offers from Finance Sector

Kolkata: This year, the placement session at Indian Institute of Management- Calcutta (IIM-Calcutta) was flooded with job offers form finance sector. The conclusion of the IIM-C placement session for the batch of 2009-11 has seen that 31.3% of its students were absorbed by finance sector, followed by 23.7% by the consulting and 21.6% by the marketing sector. Moreover, some 70 foreign offers were made to the batch, a noteworthy increase over last year, with Abu Dhabi, Sydney and Miami among the new locations on offer.

While the institute declined to reveal salary details, at IIMC, the Slot 0 finance firms offers generally comprise a fixed component (30-40 lakh for Indian locations and 40-60 lakh for foreign locations) and bonuses according to industry standards. Slot 0 consulting firms generally offer around a 20-25 lakh base package for Indian locations in addition to a bonus component. Slot 0 marketing companies offer around 15-20 lakh for Indian locations.

In addition, all the offer details are yet to come in. IIM-C dean (programme initiatives) Professor Sougata Ray while speaking at a press conference has said that they are expecting atleast a 10-15% increase in offer packages over last year. Besides, last year, the average domestic compensation excluding year-end bonuses stood at 15.32 lakh. The final placements alone saw 21 new recruiters. Nielsen & Co. selected students for their emerging leadership program in the finance domain. Daiwa, Avendus, India Infoline and CRISIL were some of the finance firms that visited IIM Calcutta for the first time.
