Day One Registers Over 48000 Applicants at DU

New Delhi: One of the finest universities in India, University of Delhi, popularly known as Delhi University (DU), has kick started its admission for the ensuing session 2012 from Monday,June 4, 2012. As per the officials, more than 48,250 admission forms were sold on the opening day, breaking the previous record of 40,000 made in 2010 session. Around 15,500 forms were sold at DU centers and 14,750 from post offices.
 
Besides the offline procedure, this year, DU also started online admissions for the first time and registered 18,000 candidatures, of which 7,500 candidates submitted their applications on the very same day. Despite applying through the online mode, applicants are also filling up the offline form (paper) in order to ensure that their applications are accepted.
 
According to sources, while applying through online method, candidates are required to deposit a Demand Draft of Rs 100 for each programme via snail mail to the University, as no application form will be entertained without the DD. Furthermore, the University is likely to start the online payment portal in the near future to make it easier for admission seekers.
 
The University has arranged helpdesks to solve admission related queries at its campuses. Student volunteers have been deployed to guide aspiring candidates in the most appropriate way and assist them in filling up the application forms, selecting centers, etc. Officials have further informed that most candidates come with queries related to seeking admission into the best courses of the University, like B Com, irrespective of their marks.
 
This year, admission into various constituent and affiliated colleges will be conducted for more than 54,000 seats. The B Com (Bachelor of Commerce) course offered by Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) is one of the most sought-after courses of the University. Other colleges, such as St Stephens, Hindu College, Miranda House, Ramjas College, and Kirori Mal are favorite choices for admission seekers.
 
University of Delhi, among the largest and most prestigious universities of the country, was established in the year 1992 with only three colleges. Today, it has a wide range of faculties and over 80 colleges functioning under its purview. DU has been awarded recognition from UGC for outstanding academic work. Over the last several decades, the University has grown into one of the largest universities in the country. The University has its campuses across the capital, spread over North, South, East and West campuses.
