DU Likely to Hike Fee for Part-time MBA Courses

New Delhi: Delhi University (DU), is likely to increase the fee for Part-Time MBA courses, offered at its Faculty of Management Studies (FMS). The fee may increase from next academic session. The two part-time, three-year management courses offered at FMS are namely, MBA (part time) and MBA (healthcare administration).

As per sources, in addition to the fee hike, it is proposed that the names of the programmes will change and their duration will be reduced to two years. The intake of students in one course will go down as well. Sources also informed that the proposals for the same are likely to be approved by the academic and executive councils, in the upcoming meetings.

It's been proposed to increase the fees of MBA (part time) and MBA (healthcare administration) to Rs 50, 000 per annum from Rs 11, 000. In addition, these courses will be renamed as MBA (executive) and MBA (executive) healthcare administration.

Presently, the B-school admits 232 students for the MBA (part time) course; but after the inception of new academic structure, only 172 will be admitted. However, in the case of healthcare administration programme, the B-school will admit 42 students instead of 37.

Confirming the to-be-made changes, a senior FMS official said that the faculty has approved the proposed changes, as there has been a gradual decline in the number of takers for the two management courses. While explaining the reduction of duration, the official said that world over, the executive programmes are of maximum two years duration; so, it makes no sense to keep the duration at three years.

Stating that there will be no dilution of the curriculum because of shortening of the duration, a senior faculty member of the FMS said that the programme will be more intensive now. Moreover, the students of part-time programmes must have 75% attendance and will have to clear the courses within a period of four years.
