JMI to Introduce PG Diploma Programme in Acting from 2012

New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, is all set to expand its academic curriculum with the introduction of PG Diploma Programme in Acting. The course being launched will be offered to candidates from the session commencing from July 2012. The programme will be conducted as a full fledged one-year post graduate diploma course under Anwar Jamal Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre (AJK MCRC).

The programme has been introduced with the intent of nourishing young talents and providing them fundamental knowledge of acting so as to cultivate their acting skills. However, the core syllabus of the course has not yet been decided. AJK MCRC offers a wide range of courses in the fields of media and journalism. The inclusion of the aforesaid programme will add another jewel in the crown of the Centre.

Simi Malhotra, Faculty and Media Coordinator, AJK MCRC, said that though the Centre has myriad courses in media, journalism, films and theatre, but there is no full-fledged course in acting at post graduate level. She further added that Delhi is well known for its theatre culture and has produced several eminent actors and actresses.

When asked about the course module, Malhotra replied that the course will be a shift from traditional media to the new media. The addition of the course will open new doors for students in theatre production as well as television and film industry, she concluded.

All aspirants desiring to seek admission should obtain Bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks in aggregate. Selection will be done through an entrance test, followed by personal interview, which will be conducted by AJK MCRC under the rules and regulations of Jamia Millia Islamia.
