Panjab University to Discontinue MBA Executive Degree Course

Chandigarh: Panjab University, located at Chandigarh, has decided to discontinue its MBA (Master of Business Administration) Executive Degree course, from new academic session in 2013. The decision of terminating this course was taken in syndicate’s meeting, held recently. Meant for working professionals in management and corporate field with total 39 seats on offer, the executive programme was being conducted in University Business School (UBS) of the varsity. As per reports, the seasons behind its suspension are the lack of faculty as well as declining interest of students.
 
At present, only one fourth of the total available seats are occupied. Discussing about the deteriorating condition of the course, PU officials explained that, out of 49 students who registered for last year’s batch, only 17 were able to qualify conditions and ultimately, only eight students were consistently attending classes. Therefore, admissions for the new session will not be conducted for this particular course. 

This MBA (Executive) course was designed to be completed in three semesters. As far as the eligibility is concerned, candidates with minimum two years of full time executive experience in a commercial or industrial organization were eligible to apply. Moreover, candidates were also required to qualify an entrance exam, which was conducted by the University institute. Also, there were separate terms and conditions need to be fulfilled by government officials such as all India or state administrative, technical services and Defence personnel.
