Certificate Course in Diabetes Care at IGNOU

New Delhi: Keeping in par with the genus of education to go with the present day demand, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has started a course in diabetes care. The new programme launched will equip the students with the knowledge and skills about management of the disease in relation to diet.
 
As per the instruction issued by IGNOU, the new session of the programme will start by July end. The six-month Certificate Programme in Diabetes Care for Community Workers has been developed to build up a workforce to work in diabetic clinics, health centres at community level and in hospital diabetic clinics. Moreover, the programme launched with an aim of providing or upgrading knowledge about diabetes, its management and complications and prevention. It will help the workers to learn various skills of assessment and care of the diabetic patient and their family members.
 
According to a university statement, it is for the first time that any university in India has approached the issue of care of the diabetics through an organized academic programme. The purpose is also to build up a base for inflow of community workers trained in the care.
